Buttonfam2300 Serving with Crosslinks as lecturers in the Uganda Christian University at Mukono, about 25 kms east of the capital, Kampala, near Lake Victoria. Family

Their children, Abigail (9) and Alex (8), go to an international school in Kampala. They are now able to share the difficult driving with two other families, which is a great help because it is one hour each way in heavy traffic on pot-holed roads.

Pray for safety on the roads.

Thank God they like their new teachers & have good friends at school.

Pray for Rosie as she runs the Children's Library on the campus for all staff & student children.

Pray for another to join the team with time & interest to get more involved & in due course to take over from her.

Bishop_TuckerUganda Christian University

It started nearly 100 years ago as Bishop Tucker Theological College, the main Anglican theological college for Uganda. In 1997 the Archbishop saw the need for a Christian university, not only to train ordinands, but also to provide tertiary education based on a Christian worldview, rather than a secular Western worldview. Originally the university taught theology and education, but it now has departments of law, nursing, social work, IT, development, media & business studies. There are currently over 7,000 students. Rev Dr John Senyonyi was appointed Vice-Chancellor from September 1st.

Pray for him & his wife, Ruth, as he leads the University.

Give thanks for the ground-breaking ceremony for the new library held on Feb 12th & attended by hundreds of people.

Much of the money needed has been raised but they are still waiting for one key grant to be signed.

Pray this would happen soon so the building work can begin.

Dan has had responsibility Amosfor the Foundation Studies Department. Give thanks that his former assistant, Amos Turyahabwe, was appointed to take over from July 1st & he is doing a great job.

Every student at UCU must do eight foundation courses, including those on Old Testament, New Testament, Christian worldview and Christian ethics. This is to enable all the students, whatever profession they enter, to integrate their faith and their work. As a result the graduates are much sought after by employers because of their good character and moral integrity.

Pray for Amos & Dan as they train & supervise the 86 part-time tutors who teach these courses - 90% of whom are UCU graduates.

Give thanks that 4 full-time tutors/lecturers have also been appointed.

The Theology Department trains clergy for Anglican ministry. It offers BD, MDiv, MA & DMin degrees, plus a program in Child Development & Children's ministry. Of the 200 hundred students 40% are from neighbouring countries, because the university has such a good reputation for being evangelical and concentrating on ministerial formation. Rosie teaches some Old Testament & Greek, while Dan teaches some New Testament, theology & apologetics.

Pray for Dan as he works to finish his PhD.

women300Rosie runs a weekly fellowship group for the women in training. Many have been encouraged to train by fathers who are in the ministry. Ten of the present group are single. Traditionally Ugandan culture puts pressure on single women to get married and many bishops will not ordain a person until they get married.

Pray for the women as it is not always easy for them to minister in African society where traditionally women are expected to be submissive.

Pray too that God will give the single women husbands, who will work together with them in ministry or who will be supportive of their ministry.

Rosie also sorts & distributes books she acquires for the theology students from Feed the Minds. Cook Ministries & Langham Literature. These are a great blessing as it is difficult to find books in Uganda & if you can they are very expensive. Commentaries & Bible dictionaries etc are invaluable resources for for their preaching & teaching. She also helps students buy books at very subsidised prices through Langham Literature, if they are able.

Pray that Dan & Rosie will continue to be good role models for those they train & will equip them to have fruitful ministries in East Africa.

Pray that the Lord will guide them to their next sphere of service for him in 2011, when they finish at UCU.
