Halestraps_2012

Passion to serve

Pete & Libby, with Finn (10.8.09) and Gabriel (18.1.12) will be travelling to Kenya in October 2012.They have a passion to be serving God in Africa, a desire that has been enhanced by previous short-term experiences with Africa Inland Mission. They have been based in Exeter for the last 5 years. Pete is working as a General Practitioner, and involved in the leadership of St Leonard’s unplugged. Libby worked as our Women’s minister before having Finn, & currently works with the Mission Support Committee. They have sought to use the last few years to equip themselves to be serving the local community in Kijabe
and look forward to seeing how God will use them during the next few years.

Reaching the unreached

Following initial training they will be working in Kijabe Hospital, seeking to serve the people attending the hospital and living in the surrounding area.

Pete will be overseeing the care in the outpatient and emergency departments as well as being involved in some of the community development work.

Libby will be seeking opportunities to work with local women as well as looking after their two small children.

There are numerous opportunities to disciple and equip local believers as well as to reach out to unreached people groups who visit the hospital for healthcare.

AIM’s vision

Africa’s a big place - 53 countries; 1 billion people; 1,000 indigenous languages; 950 people groups who’ve never heard the gospel. What a challenge! AIM has been responding to that challenge for over 100 years. Today over four million Africans worship in churches founded through the work of AIM .But the job isn’t finished yet. That’s why missionaries from the UK are still heading out to Africa. It’s the work of mission partners like them, serving alongside local churches and pioneering work where there is no church that is making a difference in the lives of African people.

Prayer Points

The 3 Fs:

Family- pray for Pete, Libby & the boys as they make practical preparations to move to Africa. Also for their extended family preparing for their departure.

Finance – pray for them as they continue to work towards finding the financial support needed for them to go. Consider prayerfully if YOU could help with this.

Finishing- for good use of their remaining months in Exeter & the right people to take over responsibilities from them Particularly for Pete’s role in Unplugged.

senegalaltIn Senegal less than 1% of the population are evangelical Christians, so there is a great need to make the gospel known, and to strengthen the very small evangelical church there. So Andrew & Helen's main focus is to get to know those they come in contact with as they live in Dakar, a city of 4 million people. Helen works as a doctor in a medical clinic, and Andrew is teaching English to students and seeking to witness to them and others.
