Bishop_TuckerUganda Christian University

It started nearly 100 years ago as Bishop Tucker Theological College, the main Anglican theological college for Uganda. In 1997 the Archbishop saw the need for a Christian university, not only to train ordinands, but also to provide tertiary education based on a Christian worldview, rather than a secular Western worldview. Originally the university taught theology and education, but it now has departments of law, nursing, social work, IT, development, media & business studies. There are currently over 7,000 students. Rev Dr John Senyonyi was appointed Vice-Chancellor from September 1st.
Give thanks that he has made a brilliant start to his new role & has received a huge amount of support from students & staff.
Pray for him & his wife, Ruth, as he leads the University.

Dan  had responsibility Amosfor the Foundation Studies Department.
Give thanks that his former assistant, Amos Turyahabwe, was appointed to take over from July 1st last year & he is doing a great job.
Every student at UCU must do eight foundation courses, including those on Old Testament, New Testament, Christian worldview and Christian ethics. This is to enable all the students, whatever profession they enter, to integrate their faith and their work. As a result the graduates are much sought after by employers because of their good character and moral integrity. The university has recently adopted a new motto, reflecting its holistic purpose, which is: "A complete education for the complete person"

Pray these courses will have a positive impact on the students' spiritual lives , for the Chaplains, Frederick Baalwa and George Kasangaki, for Amos heading up Foundation Studies, and for all the lecturers as they seek to pass on not only knowledge but Christian values and integrity to their students.

The Theology Department trains clergy for Anglican ministry. It offers BD, MDiv, MA & DMin degrees, plus a program in Child Development & Children's ministry. Of the 200 hundred students 40% are from neighbouring countries, because the university has such a good reputation for being evangelical and concentrating on ministerial formation.
Pray for the family of one of the lecturers whom Dan & Rosie had known from when he was a student. He died very suddenly from a stroke Pray his wife will be able to find ways to provide for the children.

Give thanks that Jessica Hughes was accepted to work in the theology department at UCU, so she will be able to take over the book ordering job Rosie had been doing.  Also for the work of Langham Literature and SPCK in providing books free or at great discounts, for theology students around the world, and  pray that these ministries will be able to continue in these times of economic strain.
